OK … Here we go again! I have had 2 failed attempts at starting this thing … May the 3rd Attempt Be The Charm Please J
Here is what I am doing. I’ve rated 205 All-Time Golfers based on their Career Ranking from 1 thru 205. So, for example, I have Jack Nicklaus rated #1 because of his 18 Majors & Tiger Woods at #2 for his 14 Majors. Majors alone are not the deciding factor, as I have Golfers in my Field of 205 who have never won a Major. This IS NOT a Career Disk … Please Read On …
Then, I assigned them a DKS Rating based on their Rank. The DKS Rating is assigned to reflect “a balance” between, or an Average, if you will, between the Golfers Best Season and his Career Standing. These Ratings are not meant to be a diluted Career Average because I am estimating a DKS Rating that Averages the Career with a “Lights Out” 1 Year Best Season! So this IS NOT a Career Disk as DKS has already issued one.
So, let’s look at the DKS ATG Disk for illustration sake. Tiger is #1 at 8.94 and Jack is #2 at 8.58 on the “Stock” Ratings issued by DKS. On my creation, Jack is 9.35. So take 9.35 X 2 = 18.70. Then subtract Jack’s ATG DKS “Stock” Rating of 8.58. So doing the math, 18.70 – 8.58 = 10.12. That means I am Rating Jack’s “Lights Out” Best Season @ 10.12.
Let’s do Tiger now. My created rating is 9.29. So take 9.29 X 2 = 18.58. The subtract Tiger’s ATG DKS “Stock” Rating of 8.94. So doing the math again, 18.58 – 8.94 = 9.64. That means I am Rating Tiger’s “Lights Out” Best Season @ 9.64. Again, this is not a Career Disk like Ben’s (thanks again) or the DKS ATG Set. This is a “blend” between a Golfer’s Best Year & His Career!
Get it or Get it? Naaa … I don’t want to start that again as I thought I was dying from cancer. I sincerely apologize for such rage in my posts in August, 2014 & on when I was diagnosed. I wasn’t given much of a chance of beating this thing and, although I am not cancer-free, my energy is back and my faith has been restored J
Next, here are the 4 Criteria I used to get 205 Golfers below:
criterion is to eliminate those golfers that I can't form a "visual mental
image" of. So this file will not contain Harry Vardon, Willie Anderson, Lloyd Mangrum, "Young &
Old" Tom Morris, Ralph Guldahl, Jim Barnes, Horton Smith, J.H. Taylor,
Bobby Locke, Paul Runyan, MacDonald Smith, Craig Wood, James Braid, Henry
Picard, Lawson Little, and many, many, others that could have qualified for the
My 2nd criterion is that this file will contain every golfer that has Won a Major filtered by my 1st criteria of course. I include the Major Winners because it is the test of "ultimate pressure" in golf IMO and the fields are the strongest. So guys like Wayne Grady, Shaun Micheel, Claude Harmon Sr., Walt Burkemo, Ian Baker-Finch, Y.E. Yang, Trevor Immelman, Lucas Glover, Rich Beem, Keegan Bradley, Ben Curtis, and others, may not qualify for a real TOP 205 golfing career ranking, but they will qualify in my file.
My 3rd criterion is to make this an International File made up of PGA and European Tour Winners. So guys who have never won on the PGA Tour will be included like Colin Montgomerie, Sam Torrance, Miguel Angel Jimenez, and others.
4th Criteria - Make reasonable "career estimations" on current players. I have used Projection Modeling for these Calculations based on age, health, current results. So Brandt Snedeker & Rickie Fowler are in for example. So you will see some tour players with only a few wins and no Majors in this file as well.
So having an Absolute Rank Position i.e. Nicklaus #1 @ 9.35 DKS Rating & Tiger #2 @ 9.29 DKS Rating, the only other thing to do was assign ratings for the golfer’s based on their tendencies & based on the individual rating categories & their DKS Programmed Weightings to equal 9.35 or 9.29, in Jack’s & Tiger’s case, respectively.
The golfers’ who had the Highest Rating in a Single Category got 10’s (the MAX). No more than 3 10’s could be assigned for any individual rating category and no golfer could be rated a 10 in 2 categories.
All Tourneys will be TOTALLY SIMMED because I want immediate results to see how this plays out & see what the "engine" yields!
Now, take a peek at these 205 “filtered” Golfers & their Overall Rating & Individual Category Ratings in the below Posts. Tourneys / Courses Used / Will Follow too, after the 205 Golfer Ratings ...
